Summer Beauty Prep: Tinted Sunscreen

I have exceptionally fair skin and freckles as well as a family history of skin cancer. I'm not complaining, I absolutely love my freckles but it does mean that from the first day of spring until mid-fall a good portion of my time is spent making sure I'm properly covered with the right SPF. Thankfully science and the cosmetics industry have advanced by leaps and bounds since I was a kid and greasy Coppertone is a thing of the past. This summer I'll be focusing on mineral sunscreens that do double duty with a nice tint (so I don't have to wear extra makeup) or with a supremely easy powder application. With these and a giant hat, I think I'll be all set.

Best

Stop It Right Now is really one of the best blogs right now. She somehow still captures the fun and excitement that fashion blogging had when it first began. Case in point: her happy face made out of Jenni Kayne's covetable D'Orsay flats.

Marais Spring 2012

Marais released their Spring 2012 collection and the wedges look fantastic. The tangerine ankle strap ones are perfection.

Sale Preview: Alexander Wang on The Outnet

Tomorrow several items that had permanent tabs dedicated to them on my browser (this is pre-Pinterest I'm talking about) hit The Outnet as a part of a massive Alexander Wang Sale. These three items in particular are favorites. I love the zip-around sweater because you can change it from oversized to cropped. The maroon draped sweater shows off Wang's subtle talent for sophisticated body-flattering design. And those jeans. There's something so unflattering and grungy that makes me absolutely need them. Happy shopping!

Baggu Bright Leather Bags

As a huge Baggu devotee and a sucker for anything brightly colored, the new leather totes and pouches by the Brooklyn-based company are calling my name. I'm thinking the medium tote (top) in grapefruit (middle) will be very hard to resist. Plus, as someone saving up for a very well-known satchel I don't mind supplementing my collection with a simple bag that can stand on its own in any closet.

In God We Trust Spacer Ring + KSNY Nail Polish

I had been eyeing this spacer ring from In God We Trust for a few weeks and conveniently just happened to walk past their store on Bedford Ave this weekend. I love how delicate the two bands are. It also fills my desire for a first knuckle ring while I think over if they work on my fingers.

In the photo I'm also wearing the new Kate Spade New York Florence Broadhurst nail polish. Clearly I'm getting in the mood for spring.

The ring is available at In God We Trust stores or online at NeedSupply.com

Christopher Kane Spring 2012-Inspired Nails

I am always inspired by how fresh and fun Christopher Kane's clothes can be and blown away by his originality from season to season. For Spring I was particularly drawn to the surprisingly pretty bedazzled jeans and quirky garden florals he showed. To get the look I used Sally Hansen Salon Effects denim nail stickers with Chanel Holographic "gems" on top and my nail art pens to paint individual flowers on top of OPI Significant Other Color (my new favorite sheer).

For more proof that I love Kane's fashionable sense of humor check out my Christopher Kane Aqua Gel Clutch Nails.

In the third photo I'm wearing this Moveslightly bracelet and my Giles Hook Cuff.

What to Pack?

On Thursday, I head to SXSW Interactive in Austin. And while I am incredibly excited to explore the city for the first time and to be immersed in new technologies, I have always hated packing. Because I refuse to bite the bullet and get it over with I am always left throwing weird combinations of clothes into my bag at the last minute. I think its high time for me to subscribe to the Didion way and create a list and adhere to it. I'll be skipping the cigarettes and switching the typewriter for my laptop.

Prediction: Look Ma, No Hands

One trend that I've been thinking about for a little while and noticed quite a few times at Fashion Week was a conspicuous lack of purses. Stylish ladies are forgoing carryalls in favor of the just the bare essentials carried casually in their pockets or in a belt pouch (chic fanny pack anyone?). Jenna Lyons carried just her keys on her belt loop and Amber Venz accessorized with an adorable Chanel belt.

I like the Givenchy's necklace version of the pouch. Although I can't get on board with a Blackberry holder, it's 2012. DVF also serves up a minimalist modern belt that would look very cool on a girl with no hips. Chanel and Mulberry have great options as well.
