Trend: Lips

Strangely, completely unrelated to the return of Schiaparelli, lips are making a big splash. From glossy enamel puckers to more minimalist gold interpretations this surrealist icon is having a moment especially in jewelry. I love the idea of wearing a bold kisser, but it definitely makes a statement. Would you wear this trend?

Need: Pamela Love Spiked Earrings

Pamela Love's Spring collection is my favorite from the designer. She took one of my favorite inspirations, the American Southwest, and modernized the shapes and materials in a beautiful way. These earrings are my favorite from the collection. I am always drawn to earrings with unique backings and the silver spikes on these are just right.

Guess 30th Anniversary

As part of their Thirty Sexy Years campaign, Guess has reissued updated versions of the classics that appeared in the ads spanning that time (featuring notables like Claudia Schiffer, Anna Nicole Smith and Drew Barrymore). I chose the Beverly Sophie Gingham Pant because they are classic and a bit daring. We all know that Guess has sexiness down pat in their ads, but I love the sense of adventure that their cast of women brings. In a lot of ways living in New York has that same feeling. Around every corner there could be some new wonderful experience. These pants are the perfect item for that because by changing just one item you can completely transform their look. One minute its grabbing a coffee or shopping for flowers, the next, who knows.

Rings

I get a lot of questions on my nail posts about where I got the rings that I wear in the photos. I wear most of my rings daily and have worn the same ones for years. Three to four out of the six or so I wear daily were gifts from loved ones and the others are rings that I have bought myself. As is clear in my photos, I have a penchant for thin, delicate bands with small gems or geometric elements. While I can't direct you to where to buy most of my rings, I can show you some of the ones I'd love to add into my rotation. The lips and horseshoe are from Fucci House available at Bird. The square and diamond/turquoise rings are by Mociun, a new favorite of mine. Catbird in Brooklyn is also brimming with tiny little rings of all kinds (they brought the world the chic knuckle ring).

California in April

In early April, Mark and I took a week-long trip to California. We started in San Francisco where we toured Alcatraz, took in a Gaultier exhibit the De Young, spent a day spring skiing at Tahoe and I painted my little brother's fingernails. Next was off to LA for the night before heading out to my family's house in the Palm Desert. We hiked a ton and took in the insanely beautiful surroundings. California really can spoil you.

Into Now: 5.17.12

ONE by Maslin Zebra Towel, CC Skye Nail Bangle, H&M Bikini, Narnia Jewel Sandal

Sometimes I like to feel a little bit glam. I always like items that look more expensive than they are. The above items are how I would imagine a glam beach vacation without actually living beyond my means, which is never chic.

**FYI, I do not think that $200 is cheap for a beach towel, but it is cheaper than a zebra rug...

Need: Sam Edelman Trina Sandals

Last summer I bought a similar pair of Chloe/Celine "influenced" sandals and proceeded to wear them literally to non-stop. The gold heel ads a little excitement to the classic shape and takes them from retro to minimalist. I will definitely be replenishing my collection this summer.

Trend: Craft Fair Jewelry

Recently two new jewelry brands discovered on Opening Ceremony and Ten Over Six's sites caught my eye. These knotted rope and wire-wrapping techniques are straight out of the craft fairs I went to with my mom (a big quilter) when I was younger. I find a certain pleasure in seeing pieces like this positioned in a stylish way considering their not-so-chic origins. DIY-ers beware, these styles are for serious lifetime crafters only.

Yestadt Millinery Fall 2012

I'm in love with the Pony Boy cap from Yestadt Millinery's Fall 2012 collection. I saw the leopard version in person on one half of their design team, Molly, and it is to die for. It is almost like a baseball cap, but with the most perfect slight alterations that turn it into something much more feminine.

Karen Walker and Soulland also have great variations on baseball caps.

Comme des Garcons Play-Inspired Nails

After seeing heart-tipped nails I got it in my mind that I could take things a step further and go after one of my favorite logos, Comme des Garcons Play. I loved how accurately these turned out and it was surprisingly fun to have a ton of little eyeballs staring at me all day. These are very DIY-able, but I do recommend starting out with slightly rounded/pointed nails to get the heart shape.

In the pics I'm holding my new Comme des Garcons jewel wallet and wearing my new favorite item, my Nike Destroyrer jacket.

Into Now: 5.9.12

Hanging planter, Boy. Band of Outsiders barn jacket, Coach Classics mini, Revlon Lip Butter, Serpent Sea rug

I'm pretty much in the same mood at last week, but this time around it is all about the perfect tiny purse from Coach classics and my favorite new lipstick discovery, Revlon Lip Butter. My favorite color is lollipop, a springy berry shade that feels like a chapstick but has much more pigment than most lip butters.  At $6 a tube, its a no-brainer.

Bracelet Mystery Solved.

Since high school I have worn the same delicate gold bracelet on my right wrist (you can see it here, here and here) and as such I have long since forgotten who designed the thing. It wouldn't much matter except that at least once a week I get asked where I bought it. A few weeks ago a woman literally stopped me mid-yoga class to inquire about it as a gift for her sister. Well, thanks to an anonymous commenter on my Refinery29 Wrist Wear post, I now know that it is by jewelry designer Jane Hollinger. Isn't that one of the beautiful things about blogs? Now I can share something that I've enjoyed so much with others.

Into Now: 5.2.12

Clockwise from top left: Alexander Wang vest, Wwake necklace, AMradio mobile, Peter Som bikini top, Moveslightly keychain

Right now, and pretty much always, I'm in a vaguely summer sport-inspired mood. I hesitant to admit that I love the surfer look because I'm truly scared of the ocean, meaning that it will always be a put-on. At least its a good one! Before full-fledged summer hits the best way to get the look is Alexander Wang's structured sheer vest, Wwake's braided rope necklace, and Peter Som's floral bustier bikini top (worn as a visible bra now and at the beach later). The result is a city-friendly take on the beach.
