Christmas in Carmel: Carmel Beach
This was the first Christmas spent at my Mom's new cottage in Carmel, California. She makes the drive down the coast nearly every weekend and now I can see why. Living five minutes from one of the most beautiful beaches in California has its advantages: morning walks on the beach, afternoon jogs along the cliff trail, sneaking up onto the green at Pebble Beach, watching the sun set with a glass of wine, waking up to the sound of waves crashing, the most pampered dogs in all the world, and best of all happy family.

Coney Island

Earlier this summer we took a little trip to Coney Island on one of the hottest days of the year. Up close, the beach has this gross sort of beauty that is super colorful because it is super crowded. The further away you get, down the beach to the left or down the pier, the quieter and more relaxing it becomes, but you loose the true sense of Coney Island. Truth be told, we didn't spend the day meditating on beauty. We spent it stuffing our face with Nathan's corn dogs and running across the sand fast enough not to burn our feet (to the mocking cheers of fellow beach-goers).

DIY Inspiration: Beach Terrariums
For a while I was obsessed with lush green, mossy terrariums, then came my love for bowls filled to the brim with cacti and sand which will never die out. Now I've moved on to sand terrariums with pristine white sand, pebbles, beachy accents, and air plants. Time for a new weekend project.

Wiksten Spring/Summer 2010
I love Wiksten's Spring/Summer 2010 lookbook. The beach (at Jacob Riis Park), the red lipstick, the jumping, and the smiling all set the scene for a perfect summer. The small collection is surprisingly Opening Ceremony-friendly with cut-out shoulders, tank top button-ups, and tribal prints, but since each is made in such small batches, you really will have something unique. The dyed tank dress is my favorite, but if I could have it all, I would.
